Our next Bowhouse market is on in a couple of weeks, and we are in full planning mode. Now that we have some more freedom of movement, we are hoping to have our first interactive activity taking place with the return of our ever popular apple press where you can bring along your harvest from your own trees and press them into juice. Next week will be our floor planning meeting as well where we sit down as a team and decide on the layout of traders, trying to ensure that each market has its own unique feel can be tricky but rewarding when it comes together.

A couple of years ago we purchased our very own Artist Bothy which we have been leasing out as holiday accommodation through Airbnb. I have recently taken over the running of the Bothy, from the bookings to the cleaning and everything in between and currently researching how we can develop the Bothy further into more environmentally friendly and sustainable accommodation for visitors to the Estate and the East Neuk in general, this is definitely one of my favourite projects and one that I really enjoy working on!

Recently we have been developing a Health, Safety and Wellbeing policy which I am excited to be taking the lead on. This policy is very much in its infancy and development stage but raising awareness of everybody’s health, safety and wellbeing should be at the forefront of our minds in all tasks that we undertake and will be run alongside all of our existing risk assessments and health and safety policies.

I am in the very fortunate position in Balcaskie that by working from the office I see a lot of different aspects on the Estate and no day is the same however being based at the office does have its drawbacks in that I do not get to physically see as much of the Estate as I would like. Ever with the solution though we have started a series of ‘staff outings’ so that we all get the opportunity to see the areas of the Estate that we do not necessarily work in. Next week we are having our first staff outing to the gardens which I am excited for and eager to see the wonderful work Gavin and Lesley have been doing rather than just the photos which I am sure do not do them justice.
