East Neuk Studio – Tim Goodwin

25 February 2026

I moved to Scotland with my partner about 8 years ago. Together we ran a workplace transformation consultancy, with me looking after the technical side of audio and video content creation. I also have over 20 years photography experience. Recently, I’ve felt the urge to do my own thing, concentrating on audio, video and photography. So, when Unit 7 at Comielaw Farm on Balcaskie Estate became available, I jumped on the opportunity.

Launching the studio business on Balcaskie Estate was a good fit for me. I like the estate’s general ethos – regenerative farming practices and support of small businesses. Also, a studio is different but complimentary to the other businesses at Balcaskie. The financials are favourable for a small business starting up and the studio space is a converted 18th century dairy (but thankfully with 21st century underfloor heating!) so it has character and surrounded by beautiful countryside. It’s also good being in a community of other small businesses.

East Neuk Studio is intended to be an inclusive, creative space. I opened the studio to offer high-quality video, audio and photography services in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Currently, the studio offers podcast recording, talking head/explainer content and photography, including pets, people, art and products. I’m adding affordable photography workshops and 1:1 sessions soon.

In 2025 podcasts started to add video and that trend shows no sign of slowing. However, while it’s possible for you to make a reasonable job of recording an audio-only podcast and short-form video content without technical knowledge, it’s much more difficult to make high-quality, long-form video and audio. Add a second camera, and things get really tricky.

I’ve aimed to made it as simple as possible for you to record your podcast at the studio – book a date/time slot via the website, turn up and do your thing, then the video and audio files from the session will be available for you to download. If you aren’t sure how to get your podcast started, book a consulting session and get advice on how to give your podcast the best chance of success and a heads up on the pitfalls to watch out for. You can also record other content at the studio, like ‘talking head’ segments and ‘explainers’.

When it comes to photography, whether you’re just getting a simple headshot or want something more creative, I believe it’s the photographer’s responsibility to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera. With animals, it’s also important to give them time to acclimatize to the studio environment and in particular the flashes going off. I also know lots of tricks for getting the best reactions from your furry (or not so furry) companion.

East Neuk Studio is also launching its own podcast called, ‘A Bit of Neuky’. Balcaskie Estate, East Neuk of Fife and surrounding areas are full of interesting people doing interesting things and each episode will showcase the heritage, enterprise and talent of Scotland. Why does someone decide to hand-make beautiful guitars or sell yarn or roast coffee or run a cafe or a workplace transformation consultancy from this part of the world? Guests will share their stories about why the moved to or stayed in the area or what made them what to start a business here. ‘A Bit of Neuky’ is good promotion for the studio and you never know, it might prompt someone to start their own podcast.

And the future? One of my favourite things to do is teach photography. So, I’ll soon be announcing a series of affordable workshops for groups of up to 10 people. There’ll be three levels – beginner, intermediate and flash photography. I’ll also be doing 1:1 sessions which can be tailored to your needs. Please sign up to the mailing list here if you’d like to be notified when they’re available.

You can book a 15-minute studio tour free on the website or contact me at hello@eastneukstudio.com.

Hope to see you soon.
